The Toothbrush Redesigned
Consider the humble toothbrush. Not typically a shining example of elegant design. Kids toothbrushes are usually goofy and garish. Grownup toothbrushes are boring. Electric toothbrushes are most often clunky stacks batteries and motors masquerading as a handle. You’ve probably never uttered the words, “what a beautiful toothbrush!” Until now.
The folks at Default, a New York-based design firm have set out to create a better toothbrush that looks great in your bathroom and feels great in your hand. The results are what you might expect if Apple ever decided to get into the oral hygiene business: sleek, minimal, and available in a variety of tasteful designs.
The modular design will also allow Default to offer a growing catalog of 3D printed handles for you to customize your toothbrush with new patterns, forms, and textures.
The Default toothbrush project is being crowdfunded by an Indiegogo campaign, where you can pledge $19 to get a basic manual toothbrush, or $39–$99 for other designs and electric brushes. But don’t toss your current brush just yet. Delivery of Default toothbrushes is expected in September 2014.
