Album Moxie: The Savvy Photographer’s Guide to Album Design and more—with InDesign

There’s an old saying that when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. In this digital age we might update that to say when all you have is Photoshop, everything looks like a PSD. But nowadays our toolboxes are usually overstuffed with digital tools for all kinds of tasks, so it behooves us to learn more of them so we can take advantage of their strengths and end up with better results faster. Photographers are of course most familiar with image-editing tools like Photoshop and Lightroom. But that doesn’t mean they can’t benefit from branching out and using InDesign for part of their workflow.

That’s the idea behind a new book for photographers called Album Moxie: The Savvy Photographer’s Guide to Album Design and more—with InDesign by Khara Plicanic.

Album Moxie

The book provides a simplified approach for photographers looking to create and market wedding and portrait albums. It offers a guide to the entire process of album creation, with step-by-step instructions that take the reader through the design, retouching, and exporting of a 20-page album.

Chapter 4 of Album Moxie covers the process of making a simple square photo book with image borders created in InDesign, and then applied to a batch of images with amazing speed and ease courtesy of some Photoshop actions.
