Macaw: The Code-Savvy Web Design Tool
The field of powerful and easy-to-use web design tools is getting more competitive. Muse has all the resources of Adobe and the Creative Cloud behind it. Google’s offering a shiny new Web Designer tool. And now a startup comprised of seasoned web pros is developing a new tool that blends the intutive visual workflow of Photoshop with an intelligent engine that outputs clean and efficient HTML.
Macaw promises to allow you to “draw code” instead of writing it.
The app is initially being developed for Mac OS X, but is expected to be ported to Windows as well. Features include a fluid canvas and grid, responsive breakpoints, rich typography, easy-to-build interactivity, and more.
Macaw is being funded by a Kickstarter project where a $100 pledge will get you a license. And judging by the initial response—the project surpassed its intitial funding goal in less than a day—Macaw is on its way to becoming a huge hit.
