What better time to round up new typefaces than on Friday. Not only is “Fonts on Friday” alliterative, but showcasing new fonts also seems like a good way to end the week as well.
Here are three typefaces that caught our eye in the past week:
L.C. Smith is a typewriter-style font by TunnelBravo. But rather than create letterforms shaped like a font produced by any old typewriter, L.C.Smith is derived from the characters printed by TunnelBravo’s own 1929 L.C. Smith typewriter.
As a result, its color is irregular and its letterforms pitted just like the characters produced by an old typewriter with worn keys.
L.C. Smith is available in three weights — regular, bold, and modern — for $20 each or $50 for all three from TunnelBravo.
Abraham Lincoln, designed by Frances Macleod, is described as “Tall. Skinny. Honest.” The designer says she created it out of frustration for finding a condensed serif.
Available from Lost Type Co-Op, a “name-your-price” retailer. (If you’re going to download the font, be honest like Abe and pay appropriately!)
Malleable Grotesque is a seven-weight, 15-font sans serif designed by Lucas Sharp and Juan Carlos Pagan. The designers say the typeface is “based on the softness of forged metals.” The edges of the letterforms are slightly rough and rounded like the contours of molten iron.
The Malleable Grotesque family, consisting of obliques, small caps, and a lined display font called Wire, is available from MyFonts.com for $30 per font (style and weight) or $240 for all 15 fonts.
