Kids today! Michael Arnold is only 19, yet this UK designer and illustrator’s print shop and publication has already been in business for a year.
It’s called “The How To Project,” and Michael says that it began as a way for him to “design instructional posters that would have a place in the home and life” and, along the way, enable him to “work with printers and design an actual product”.
The posters currently in his shop tell you how to cook breakfast, brighten dull walls, wear a tie, and, my favorite, how to screen print. That’s right, it’s a screen-printed poster about a screen-printed poster:
In case the type is too small for you to read, it says:
Prepare your artwork by printing in black and white on to acetate
Expose your screens in bright light
Mix your inks and tape up gaps in the screen
Flood the screen with ink first and then with pressure to print
Practice makes perfect
The poster is printed by hand with three colors of solvent-free inks on 100% recycled organic paper stock. It measures 500mm by 700mm (about 19.7 inches by 27.5 inches) and costs 20 pounds. Michael will ship posters anywhere in the world.
