I have a long document that is running rather slow, especially when I go to save it. It often sits on the “Generating Page Previews” pop-up status bar for a couple minutes. The thing is, I have page previews turned OFF in my preferences. Anyone know why it still goes through the motions of generating the previews every time, and is there a way to get it to stop? It’s just one more thing that is slowing down my workflow on an already slow document ):

You don’t turn that off in your preferences, but in the “Pages” panel.

Go in the fly-out panel i the Pages panel, select “Panel options”, and uncheck “Show thumbnails” in both “Pages” and “Masters”.

Then InDesign will not generate prewiews anymore :)

Ah, thanks for the reply, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I have the “Pages” thumbnails turned off already; what I’m talking about are the page previews that are created when you save a document. I have that option deselected both in preferences and in the ‘save as’ dialog, but it still often gives me a status bar while it’s saving that says “generating page previews” and can sometimes get hung up there for quite a while.

Open the document and then check preferences. Make sure it’s turned off. Then try doing a Save As. Does that help?
If not, then consider exporting the file as IDML and then opening the IDML file, then saving.
