Affinity Publisher – viable?

I know this is an InDesign Forum and so apologies for bringing up the subject of another application.

I have enjoyed something of a love hate relationship with Adobe over the many years I have been paying them for their products. One of the reasons I have stuck with Adobe is because of InDesign. I pay for the full CC suite and that amounts to quite a lot of money every month. I have to admit, I was one of the people who was not keen to move to Adobe’s monthly payment option but I reluctantly signed up.

Now there is another application about to become available – Affinity Publisher – which is still in beta. I am not sure when the full version will be released but, when it is, it is, Affinity Publisher and the other Affinity programmes could help remove my dependency on Adobe.

      This leads to two questions:

Is Affinity Publisher likely to represent a viable alternative to InDesign?

      and…

Would the people who run InDesign Secrets incorporate another – non-Adobe – application into their offering (which might necessitate a name change).

Goops….hit the send button a little early but would be keen to hear the views of others.

I think a lot of people would like to see Affinity Publisher develop into something great, but all the reports I have heard so far indicate that it’s years away from being a truly viable alternative to InDesign. That said, it has a solid start… see this article on our sister site:

No option to create tagged (accessible) PDF, so an absolute no go for us here…
