My recent project sourced images from all over my system – several drives, multiple directories. Is there a way for InDesign to use the contents of its links database to copy all those source images to a new directory?

      Thanks!

      Peter

      Yes there is!

Open the Links Panel in InDesign by pressing Cmd/Ctrl, Shift, d.
Select all the images in the panel.
Right click on the selection and choose “Copy Link(s) To…”
A window will pop-up asking you to select the folder where you want the linked files will be copied.

      That’s it.

Or you can simply create a Package, which will ultimately copy all the links, fonts etc to a desired location.

Fantastic! EXACTLY what I’d hoped for. Thanks, Massood!

Hmm. There is a side effect to using the “Links Panel” solution.

All the links in the document are re-assigned to the new files in the new directory. All the original links appear to be gone. Not what I expected.

Perhaps the “Package” solution would have been a better choice. Thanks for pointing it out to me.

      regards,
      Peter

Well there’s a trick to avoid relinking the images to the desktop folder. Just close the InDesign file without saving.

Try it and let me know of other issues you may encounter.

Yes, that would work. I discovered this side effect too late. :)
