I am looking to change all instances of she / he to they. Most instances start with lower case but some instances start with a capital. How can I use GREP to find all instances of she/he starting or not with a capital and replace it with ‘they’ where the ‘t’ will be capital if the found word has a capital? My document is about 400 pages so, your help will save me a load of time. Thanks in advance.

I hope I am explaining clearly. If this question has been asked please point me to that thread. I looked here and on Google but my google fu fails me.

Not sure if you want to catch She, she, He and he or if you want to catch She/he and she/he.

      In the first case:
      Find (?i)s?he

      In the second case
      Find (?i)she/he

in both cases, replace by They

Fyi : (?i) means case insensitive

      Hope that helps

ps: I suppose you’re aware that you might end up with cases such as “They’s fine”

Ooops I read your question more carefully and I realized I got it all wrong.

I think the easiest way would be to run two queries without the case sensitivity.
      Find she/he
      Replace by they

      Find She/he
      Replace by They

If the instances of she/he are not set up like this with the slash, and you mean either “she” or “he”
      Find (s?he)
      Replace they

      Find (She|He)
      Replace They
