The World's Most Common Typefaces
Seattle designer and photographer Shelby White has designed a striking three-color poster with information on 50 typefaces he believes are “commonly used in a lot of today’s design.” Look closely and you’ll learn what year a typeface was released and by whom. But what appeals to me most about the poster is not its information, but the abstract beauty of its design.
In a blog post, White explains, “Initially the poster was created as an experiment and excuse to explore new methods of working in Illustrator that I hadn’t attempted before. I’d seen info graphics on Behance where data was fanned-out but evenly spaced—there was no way this was done by hand. It took a while but after figuring out the method of doing it where you can essentially paste in your data with tab-formatting, the poster was on its way.”
Although it’s not yet for sale, you can pre-order the 24″ x 18″ poster for $29.
