We have a character style in a paragraph style and when we try to generate the TOC, it is bringing the entire paragraph with the character style. The example is as follows (in Spanish, sorry, but it is obvious).

Complejo de Culpa. is a character style using 11 pt italic Times New Roman. The description that follows is a paragraph style using using 10 pt. Times New Roman. When the TOC is generated, EVERYTHING comes into the TOC.

The author´s specifications demand these two paragraph styles in this same paragraph.

Suggestions on how to bring only Complejo de Culpa into the TOC?

      Hi.
      Here’s a trick:

Set up your TOC paragraph style as “invisible”.
      – Font size 0.1 pt
      – Color: none
      – tracking: -1000
      – horizontal & vertical scaling: 1%

Set up “Complejo de Culpa” character style like this:
      – Font size 11 pt
      – Color: [Black] or whatever color you wish
      – tracking: 0
      – horizontal & vertical scaling: 100%

Set up a character style for the TOC page numbers

Now, TOC should carry on “Complejo de Culpa” character style if you manually applied it, which is what I understood… and make all the rest invisible.

      Would that work for you?

Dieter, this one worked. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Workaround: Put the first words with the character style into a separate text frame and apply a new paragraph style to it. Then place this new text frame inside of the notmal text frame (maybe you have to apply text wrap). Then your can select the new paragraph style for your table of content. But this will be a lot of work if you have dozens of entries.
