I am using Indesign 2017 and I was using the “Hide selection” keyboard shortcut (command + 3) so that I could easily edit a text box underneath the object I was hiding, but when I used the keyboard shortcut to “Unhide selection” (command + option + 3) instead of just bringing back my hidden selection it turned on all of the sublayers. What is going on? Has something changed and is there a way I can turn this very annoying new keyboard shortcut off? This is a disaster for the way that I work.

Command-Option-3 is not “show selection” — it’s “Object > Show All On Spread”
I don’t think this has changed in InDesign. But perhaps you’re using a lot more hidden objects now?

You are right. So if you hide something the only way to get it back is to unhide everything that is hidden, including the things that have been hidden via the Layers palette. I would have thought that layers that were hidden would be different to items that were hidden via the Hide selection (command + 3) command. That’s a bit deadly.

If you use the layer option instead, it will be much easier to manage elements, and get a hold og objects below others :)

        Hi,

When I read John, answering to David:

“You are right. So if you hide something the only way to get it back is to unhide everything that is hidden, including the things that have been hidden via the Layers palette.”

        I just think, personally, “no!”.

        Same answer about “locked/unlocked” items!

I think that because I’ve written 2 scripts [one for making items visible/invisible, the other for locking/unlocking] as “up-and-down”!

So, If I hide something with the “visibility” script, clicking again will make it appear but not all those hidden using the layers panels!
New click, it will disappear! …

        Best,

      Hi,

I can’t able to see the text behind the images when the script flows. At the same time I had found an issue that there is more space is placed between the image. So please give me the solution for displaying the text over the image and spacing issue after the image is placed.

@Monisha: I think what you are describing is a different problem. Are you on facebook? If so, I would suggest posting on fb.com/groups/indesignsecrets and show an image of what is happening.

But this video might also help:
