17th Annual Webby Awards Call for Entries
The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) has announced the opening of the Call for Entries for the 17th Annual Webby Awards.

Hailed as the "Internet’s highest honor" and "the Oscars of the Internet" by The New York Times, The Webby Awards celebrate the year’s best websites, interactive advertising and media, online film and video, mobile and apps, and social experiences. All entries compete for the Webby Award (as voted on by IADAS) and the Webby People’s Voice Award (as voted online by the fans). Last year, the Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide.
While the Webby Awards has been honoring social media excellence for nearly a decade, this year marks the debut of a new suite of social categories to honor the diversity of content, brands and people invloved with social media.
The early deadline to submit entries is October 26, 2012. Nominees will be announced in April, followed by the Webby Awards ceremony later in Spring 2013.
The most recent Webby winners include Instragram (Breakout of the Year), Pinterest (Social), Photoseed (Art), Draw a Stick Man (Animation), and Louis C.K. (Person of the Year).
Links to all past winners and nominees can be found at the Webby winners page.
Besides the prestige that comes with winning a Webby, entrants also covet the opportunity to deliver a clever 5-word acceptance speech. At the Webby YouTube page, you can watch 5-word speeches from past winners, as well as red carpet video, web-related comedy sketches, and a series of 5-word tributes to Steve Jobs.
