Not sure if you've figured out your problem, Furry. I had a similar problem and tried David's answer but, like you, that didn't fix my particular situation. I found the answer here: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990
Once I replaced my preferences everything went fine. I used the first 'quick and easy' method, although it's not that easy. In the end I held down ctrl-alt-shift before (and during) the loading of InDesign as it was the only way I could get the dialog box to appear.
