My main work is fairly complex books, and from time to time, when I export, the character styles get garbled. I apply style sheets very carefully and with great consistency, but even so, sometimes they get messed up. For instance, in the export it has happened that InDesign has applied a character style to several letters before and several letters after where the style is meant to be, but not to the actual word that has the style applied. This is a bit scary, as I am almost the last line of defense before the book goes to press. In the past, distillling took care of this problem. But I am actually glad to know that export is considered better. I would though, in that case, like to know why the style error pops up from time to time!
