Could you not simply make the image itself into a button?

    You’re welcome Anita.

Do check the duplicate fonts issue as well though.

I found that font management software had somehow duplicated a ton of fonts during an update. I removed all the fonts and then just added them back in as I needed them and the slow panels issue disappeared completely.

I can’t be 100% sure that this is what fixed the issue, but not much else changed with my set-up during the process so I’m confident that clearing up duplicate fonts would help the panel problem.

As far as I am aware the majority of PDF security, passwords etc can be bypassed by simply opening the PDF in Apple’s Preview, then re-saving it.

It has certainly worked for me many times over the years!

This has been discussed recently on the Adobe forums here

    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2212719

But the gist of it is – if the panels that are slow to open (they open eventually but take quite a while) then there is something else that you may like to try.

Open Activity Monitor and quite the ‘fontd’ process. This is something that has been causing problems for Indesign CS6 for some years now.

So quit Indesign, open Activity Monitor and quit ‘fontd’, then relaunch Indesign. It should be back to full speed.

You could also look at whether you might have duplicate fonts in your system. Since Mavericks this has also been the cause of this sort of behaviour in Indesign.

There is no such thing as a secure PDF unfortunately.

Bypassing a password protected PDF is as simple as opening it in Preview and resaving if you use a Mac.

    Hi Milt

I think it could be as simple as ignoring the look behinds and simply searching for any occurrence of a digit followed by a space followed by ‘am.’

If this is the case then if you searched
    (\d )(am.)

    and replaced with
    $1a.m.

It should change just the times and leave the rest alone.

    Hi Kiley

I believe if you search for (\$)(\d+)\,(\d+) and replace with $2$3 that it will work.

This searches for a ‘$’ followed by one or more digits, followed by a comma, followed by one or more digits and then replaces with just the found digits.

I think this is what you are trying to achieve”

I agree Dave, it certainly is crazy. It has happened to most the people in our Studio at one time or another, but not all of them. We work with the ruler units in millimetres and whenever this happens, it is points that one of the ruler measurements will change to.

We run the EasyCatalog plug-in for catalogue work, and it is the catalogues that receive all the supplied ads, but I never thought to associate it with that.

But as I said, it happens infrequently enough to not to be too worried about it. It has been happening at least since Indesign CS3.

Placing graphics into Indesign sometimes changes the units of measurement too – often only the horizontal or vertical, not both. So you can end up with the horizontal units being points and the vertical units being millimetres.

We work on publications which incorporate a lot of third party supplied ads and while it doesn’t happen often, it does happen enough to be annoying. I’ve never worked out the exact circumstances in which this happens, but it has been an issue with Indesign for as long as I can remember.

This is probably not what is happening here, but worth knowing about for sure.

I’m not sure how it could be made fully automatic, but perhaps if you draw a box at the correct size and make it an inline graphic, then you could just copy it and then paste it at the start of each line. This would at least make sure the checkbox travels with the text if it moved.

So instead of it hitting Enter at the start of each line, you could just hit Cmd+V each time.

Or, you look for a font that has the style of box that you require and use that as your checkbox. Depending how your text is formatted, this could be done with a find/replace at the end.

    Hope this helps.
