I thought about this, but of course, hoped there was something simpler. The list is what I need to be able to give to the client. Updating them by search-and-replace is something they can do, and then return the list to me. Thanks for your suggestion, David.

Thanks for asking, Salieri. In text, they have character styles applied, which I could easily change, but those are word references, and not the URLs themselves. So, for example, the course title in text — Music Theory 101 — is linked to “https://online.school.edu/courses/music-theory-101?pid=xxxx”. The list I want to be able to create would have the URLs as they are presented in the Hyperlink Destination Options. That way, they could search and replace the pid numbers, which is generally the only thing that changes.

I have worked with Patterson Printing in Benton Harbor, MI for over 15 years, solely doing book work. They are excellent. Contact Pamela Thames, Patterson Printing, 1550 Territorial Road, Benton Harbor, MI 49022-1937, phone 800-848-8826 ext. 542, fax 269-925-6057.

I can't help but ask what you mean when you say that the publisher has spent a lot of time preparing the book for print. Is it press-ready PDFs? Native files? Camera ready art? These kinds of things affect pricing, just like paper stock, quantity, cover, binding, and shipping do. The publisher I work with on projects that go to this printer is also a small independent publisher, with regular print runs of about 1,000 for his first editions. But a larger publisher handles his marketing and distribution.

Curious — did I do something wrong? I inserted the URL for the image, but it didn't post? The URL is https://www.girsbergerdesign.co…..index.html

David's suggestion is most logical, but I recommend using Finale or Sibelius — the right software — for this purpose.

However, if InDesign is what you have to work with, I might recommend trying tables for this purpose. This way, you could type each chord name in an individual cell, and then all words of the verse to which that chord applies in an individual cell in the row below the chord row (see below). I left the cell borders in so you can see how everything could start out in the cells, and then you could adjust as needed. I think is conceptually how lyrics behave in notation software, as they are typically centered under notes and rests, and chord symbols are assigned in the same way above the staff.

Yes, but all of the books I do are in print initially, so I need to make the TOC styles for visual presentation anyway. : )

Yep, I always use TOC styles, Anne-Marie, so I have this covered. Thanks!

in reply to: Page numbering bug in book to PDF conversion in 5.5 #62639

So glad I checked here before posting my similar problem with page numbering in a few PDFs exported from the Book palette! I just ran the update, reexported, and the page numbering is as it should be. I don't know why I hadn't gotten an automatic update, but I definitely will turn it on now, and will pass this information on to my clients, who have the same problem from other vendors.

I really appreciate all of the advice and good humor here at InDesign Secrets!

This sounds quite logical. I will give it a try, and tag it for chapter break for export. Thanks so much for your advice, coreenm!

Thanks for this info, Nick. Actually, my italics are not larger; it’s the way the italic for this font displays on the reading devices. However, I did resolve the visual issue by changing the line height, and that did take care of it.

It’s interesting to note that on the Nook Color, when you choose the publisher’s option, the linespacing with respect to the italics and bold is perfectly fine. It’s when you use the default reader setting, which is generally more desirable, that the linespacing goes awry. So, I figure as long as I define the line height by percentage, I’ll be okay for both settings.
