MemberI’ve had similar problems in the story editor before. My solution is this: when the window jumps to the last page in the document, use any of the arrow keys to move your cursor and the screen will jump back to where you were. Hope that makes sense.

MemberIf you want to clear the overrides, one possible idea/work-around is to do a find/replace where you search for a particular paragraph style and replace it with the same paragraph style. For whatever reason, overrides are cleared when you do that. I realize it’s not the solution you’re looking for, but just an idea.

MemberI would love to see this specifically for lists, so it would be more similar to css where you can have a style for the ordered or unordered list and a style for the list item.

MemberI think Kelly meant to say No, you cannot create a TOC from a *character* style. It needs to be a paragraph style, which is why she suggests a table where you could have a unique paragraph style for just the first column (the product ID).
Just wanted to clarify, since it was a confusing typo.

MemberI don’t know of an easy fix, but there are two things I would do to help discern what is going on with the order of things now:
I would look at the text in the story editor. You can cut/paste in the story editor to get your text in the proper order.
I would ‘Show Text Threads’, which can be found under View/Extras. Then you can make sure your text frames are in order. Not exactly what you’re looking for, but hopefully it helps.

MemberYou might want to check your Preferences. Under Composition, Text Wrap, if “skip by leading” is checked, try unchecking it and see if that helps.

MemberThe times I’ve run into that error (incorrect nesting level), I find I have a level 2 entry without a level 1 entry above it. I would go back and double check the section heading for that section with the missing entries and make sure it has the proper paragraph style applied.

MemberIn the original post, are you saying it only doesn’t work when the text is wrapping around an object? I am not aware of a way to make the usual bullet/text alignment work when the text is wrapping around an object. I always have to manually fiddle with it (like with Deirdre’s suggestion).

MemberSorry, I’m just getting back to this. I’ll have to do some reading myself. I was unaware there was any issue with Calibre. That is how I have always converted epub to mobi and have never had any problems. Just to reiterate, mobi needs an actual html file for the TOC, where epub does not.
Also, DRM is applied by the vendor that sells the book, be that Amazon or whomever.

MemberHi Marty,
Sorry I haven’t had a chance to check the forums in a while. Your TOC has two levels, right? I wonder why <meta name=”dtb:depth” content=”7? /> Seems like it should be =”2″. But I don’t know whether that will solve anything. I don’t know why it would display correctly everyhwere except for the Nook.

MemberMark,
What are you using to create the .mobi file? .mobi requires an actual html file for the TOC. If you use Calibre to convert the epub to mobi, it will automatically create the contents html file for you. I don’t think it has anything to do with the guide.

MemberMarty, the TOC works in other readers, just not the Nook? When you say it shows the names of the .xhtml files, do you mean that is what is what is displayed in the Nook interface? You don’t have any weird symbols or characters in there, do you?
If you want to copy/paste part of your toc.ncx file here, I’ll see if I can see anything wrong.

Member@soulartist, Jongware's advice is sound. Your help from this blog is the link to Liz Castro's blog where there's all kinds of good info about iBooks and iPads.
Having said that, my suggestion would be to add a <span> tag. Here is a copy and paste from my reply to another thread on this forum:
the iPad is weird about centering text. Even though the style tells it to align center, it doesn't listen unless there is a <span> tag also, even if it's empty. Just a weird quirk. Try this:
<p class=yourcssstylename><span>Centered Title</span></p>
Hope that helps.

MemberYes, I've found it's best if I can get the export settings right the first time through, because the hyperlinks and bookmarks tend to get messed up in optimization. As for specific setting suggestions, I'm not sure I have anything you haven't already tried. Have you looked at the “Audit space usage.” That might help direct what settings to fiddle with. You'll probably have to go pretty low with your image resolution to get the overall file size down.
