MemberHi Jongware,
I just started to taste the power of greps. So far I am in love… saved me a countless time of unnecessary work, with two days of study only! It is a miracle maker.
So, I was trying to use this one you describe above for some brazillian city names. Like you said, they have accents! Like this one: “São Bernardo do Campo”
What I want to do is to add a grep style to my paragraph style setting a more condensed style for the bigger names, with 3 or more words.
This grep selected the 2 words names like “São Paulo”, the 3 words names like “Mogi das Cruzes” but didn't work for “São Bernardo do Campo”, selecting only the 2 first words “São Bernardo”.
I don't know enough to write my own greps yet but I tried and did some very simple ones. But I honestly don't understand this one yet… I am not even close! lol
This is not an emergency… I can edit those names one by one and make the little devils look right but… I wanna learn. And I am curious to know if this one should work in this case.
Thank you in advance!

MemberHi Jongware, thank you for your answer.
I know this subject has been dicussed here before. I still keep the routine of distilling my files firstly because I am following my printer instructions and secondly because I try to be as cautious as I can with some files I have to deliver directly to the client and can't talk to the printer. I know this is not the best practice but it happens every now and then.
Actually, my main concern isn't exporting pdfs from Indesign but saving them directly from Illustrator. I can't explain the reasons for that because it is too advanced for me but some printers say they cannot be trusted and won't accept them.
Maybe my problem is not only or exactly Indesign related but, to be honest with you, I was hoping someone here could help me. I usually work with Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop together. You probably do the same, right?
Thank you!
ps.: I wrote above “I can't upgrade to Mac OS 10.5” but I can. I just typed it wrong.

MemberHi Mr.Screens,
I have an idea that may work for you.
You could set an object style to the watermark with the opacity you need for the pdf. And then edit the object style and set the opacity to zero when you don't need the watermarks anymore.
I know the synchronize feature works for the styles but I am not sure if those objects with zero opacity can cause some trouble in your final file. I mean printing problems… I am not a fan of using transparency inside indesign but you are already using transparency anyway.

MemberHi mountainsong79,
the exportools David has mentioned above does exactly what you need.
Look again… you can even test-drive it for 30 days. It works perfectly in my CS4.
Good luck!

MemberHi David,
I am having the same problem Sandra had in that post. I need a pdf with “spreads” to visualization only to send to my client.
But I don't really need the spreads. Using your words, I need the pdf to look like a book.
I didn't mention this before, right? Sorry about that…
Thank you!

MemberHi!
I kept looking and I found a perfect answer for my question right here… as usual. Where else would I?

The blog entry has more than a year old but I believe it still applies for the situation, right?
Thank you David!

MemberHi evansreb,
it is possible to edit the table content inside the Story Editor in CS4 but, when I select this table and try to navigate inside the story editor window things get really slow.
For this particularly big table nothing seems to work properly.
But thank you for the tip, it is always worth trying.

MemberHi Alan,
it was all changed to “adobe single-line composer” but now I am 100% sure! Thank you for the tip!
The story panel is very handy! I never used this before.
I am sure it is gonna help me a lot.
Thanks again!

MemberHi heezza,
I edited the paragraph style using the palette. There was the basic style and only one other, created based on the basic style. Once I edited the basic one, the other updated automatically.
The performance is better than before. When I type, the cursor still spin for a brief moment. Maybe this is as good as it gets with a table as big as this. Even now that it is half the size it was in the beginning. And I used all tips posted here.
The only thing I couldn't do was export in inx/idml formats and re-import. I will try that again and post the results here.
Thank you so much for your answers. You are very kind!

MemberHello guys!
Crych,
when you say you use tabs and paragraph styles, do you mean you do the table structure, all the frames, lines etc, under your paragraph box by hand, one by one?
Heezza,
I was having trouble to find this feature. I have so many things to learn about Indesign… thanks to Jongware's question I was able follow your explanation.
I mostly used character styles all over the table. There is only one paragraph style I created for one specific situation but, like you said, other than this one, I didn't change the paragraph settings.
What do I have to do, then?
I edited the paragraph styles: Justification -> Composer -> Adobe Paragraph Composer -> Adobe single-line Composer
Do I have to apply the styles again? About the empty cells, if I have the style modified, they are going to be modified automatically, right?

MemberHi adamjury,
I did the “save as” thing but it didn't help the inx/idml files to be re-imported. Maybe there is something else causing my file to crash when I try to re-import because I have broken the longest table into two parts and the file still crashes when I try the clean-up with inx/idml formats.
Now that the main table is 50% shorter, the performance is a little better. I didn't want to separate the table but I run out of time. And out of choices too.
I am not happy and still want to find an answer for this problem.
This table isn't so big, is it? I mean, am I expecting too much from my computer/software?
Thank you for the tips. I really appreciate the help I find here.
