    Thanks, I’ll have a look.

The “apply master based on paragraph style” seems like an awesome trick to have, but I am not sure how it would solve my problem though. The styled text would move with the page, so the master would be applied to a moved page also, no? Or am I misunderstanding something?

I would like to be able to keep these frames always on pages, say 8-9, 16-17, 24-25, etc. so even if I move the pages/spreads around, the stitches marks stay on the correct spreads.

I’ll go and read more about scripting, I’ll try to write something to copy/paste a frame on specific pages.

    From InDesign

The booklet option from Acrobat is unusable imho, it doesn’t create proper spreads, does not work with bleeds, add unwanted margins…

I will have to go and make some more tests, but I think I may have stumble upon a beginning of solution from here:
    https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/export-issue-with-variable-font/m-p/12363285/highlight/true

Try this: In Print Booklet > Print Settings > Graphics > Fonts > Download > Subset (instead of Complete) This forces an instance in the PS file

On a side rant, I still do not understand why InDesign does not simply let you export your booklet in pdf…

    Thank you!

I had stupidly completely missed the “gap color” option… >__<

Sorry David, you posted just during I was answering, I’ll go and look at your links.

mmmh… Thanks, but either I am missing something obvious, or something was lost in translation in my question.

What you are suggesting gets me only the ability to have one colour stroke, and even if I create a custom stroke, the “thick”/white part is in fact non-existant/transparent, so it does not work on coloured background.

What I would like to achieve is the first image on my example below, with the ability to have a thick padding coloured border around the image, and a another thinner one in another color, without having to stack multiple frames, and obviously without having to measure for each image to accommodate the size of the padding, etc.

So, quick update: deleting manually both preferences and cache seems to make InDesign behave normally again.
I’ll try to work today with the default pref to see how it goes, then try to reinstate my old pref, workspaces and stuff, “for science”.

I have found this post searching for advices for this problem.
I use 15.1.2 and noticed this yesterday, when suddenly one cmd-z deleted dozens of newly created pages, after I made some text edits. Poof, gone.
So, yeah, the bug is still around, and it is really scary. I could totally imagine not noticing a bunch of very small adjustments being reverted instead of just the last one.
One thing I read somewhere else hint it could be related to preferences, caches, even workspaces (that might be, because mine is a fresh install on a brand new iMac, and the only thing I imported for now was old workspaces).
I’ll go and try trashing caches and preferences, see how it goes, and let you know… Fingers crossed.

    update:
    – I tried the “old” method of defining a new page size in the Pages panel; it worked for one change, and then never again…
    – I tried to make a new Master page with a different size, then apply it to the different pages… no luck either, immediate crash

    Thanks for the article.

I have tried to trash and reset, plus the set-quit tip, we’ll see… fingers crossed.

What seems weird is that the trashed preferences problem came out of the blue. I don’t change them that much, and usually quit InDesign manually at the end of the day, saving/closing each doc before. So in these last few days, at least one set of preferences should have been saved, but then again, one random crash and all is reset; I would perhaps not even have noticed if my interface color choice did not suddenly go from white to black.

I’ll explore the plugin option. By chance I don’t use much, Font Explorer X Pro auto-activation indeed, Zevrix Output Factory, and the “how could one function without it” Multi-Find/Change.

I also re-installed TeaCup Pattern Maker this last week for a recurrent annual project, but I cannot remember if the crashes went worse after that.

That should make for a nice week-end… ^__^

Thanks Tim, I’ll go and look about a single pref file that I could save somewhere “just in case”.

I really don’t care about recent documents, so if only those are lost, that is still a progress.

Yep. Totally that. Fixed page character count x page number | total book character count.

Is there an easy way to automate the calculation in a text frame?

I won’t hardcode it on 1’500 pages, even if I know the numbers ^__^

    etc.
