MemberThanks magnavra! I have a lot of these things (tabbed groups of text) and some of them definitely have footnotes. I’ve learned a lot about tables but for this application, tabs it seems, are the best way to go.
Thank you all.

MemberThanks for all the input!
The thing that concerns me is mixed alignments. My sample has some text that I need to be centered and another that needs to be left justified. It seems like a lot of work to make some columns left justified and others centered. With tabs I can effect everything in 1 column at once. I’m pretty new to tables- is this something easily achieved using them?

MemberI’m almost there! I decided to use a single text box because the various kinds of alignment are easier to make precise and consistent (there are about 30 variations of the thing). Only problem left is a small artifact (piece of a rule) before the whole thing begins. I am using a customized polygon shaped text box I made to accommodate the lack of availability in InD and I thought it could have something to do with the oddly shaped shape. I tried to delete the HR and it mucked up the whole thing. Then as a last ditch effort, I made portions larger and smaller, entire sides and then the entire block-no dice.
Looking forward to seeing your newer formula!

MemberNo. I am using a hard return between paragraphs. Rule Above worked but 2/6 were either missing a line or have a rule below. Checked the underline feature of para. style to be sure they were off and they were.

MemberAs I place the finishing touches I can’t get the tabs to behave the same. Some end at different places (all have been set in the para. style-no outside formatting) but they all begin properly at the right margin. The only one that is as it is supposed to be is the very first line. Argh.

MemberWhen I apply a hard return the leading goes away and I can’t figure out where IND is getting it from-both styles have the same leading but I know what it is saying is wrong (says 7/11 but it looks more like 7/21).

MemberThanks, David.

MemberGot it now! Thanks.

MemberThanks, Masood. If a tab character can’t be added then why is it an option in the paragraph styles? Also how is a tab stop, opposed to a tab character, applied?
Nicole Muller
MemberYou got it! Thanks so much, Colleen.

MemberGot it! Custom rows did the trick. Thanks again for your help.

MemberThanks for the speedy reply, David. I’ve almost got it but I can’t get the column guides to disappear (using the table style and a paragraph style for the interior text). They have all been deactivated in the row and column controls of the style.
