ParticipantOne observation after implementing that approach: I had to add negative baseline shift to pull the character down till it top-aligned with ascenders.

ParticipantThanks, David!
When all else fails, outsmart your software. LOL
Any chance the site is under a DDoS attack? That definitely would make it slow.

ParticipantI would have thought the system would be smart enough not to add depth to a single-line paragraph.
If I apply a nested style to the first character and enlarge the text enough to get the desired result, I get the equivalent of space before.
(BTW, this site is excruciatingly slow today.)

ParticipantI would be more than happy to vote for that eminently sensible proposal, Mike, if the UserVoice system actually would let me log in.
I verify my device, and no e-mail message ever arrives…
This is not the first such proposal for which I’ve tried to vote.
Never trust a system with a camel-case name. LOL

ParticipantYeah, good point. I guess that means there’s no way to stop this insanity in the first place. Sometimes, I miss the days before all this outsmarting crept in. LOL
Problem is that I’m constantly opening and closing panels as needed, so there’s no one “golden” arrangement that works all the time.
And am I the only one who wishes Adobe would add a search feature to its lengthy Prefs modal? Eesh.
August 22, 2023 at 9:33 am in reply to: Importing tabular content into a prebuilt INDD table #14395202N Carroll
ParticipantYep, that’s it. Stuff needs to line up all the way across, and unless it’s all one table, that’s not going to happen easily.

ParticipantSome great suggestions here!
I decided to go ahead and import the table, then resize and restyle it, so I wouldn’t have to restyle the type largely one cell at a time.
I wish INDD enabled one to specify columns as off limits during import, and offered better support for tables as a master page item.

ParticipantThanks for the offer, Jeremy! This material was provided to me under NDA.

ParticipantHi, Peter:
That would work if the table didn’t have to jump the gutter.
The reason column 3 is blank is that its width is the sum of two facing-page inner margins. 8-(

ParticipantHi, Jeremy:
Really do not want to have to redo the formatting all over again.
It’s not a simple table.
In fact, I’m only using the tabular structure to align elements vertically and horizontally among columns of data.
The pasting recommendations I’ve seen specifically recommend selecting only one cell, hence my approach.

ParticipantI usually leave Overprint Preview on, but you can’t view bleeds and text threading that way. At some point, I’ve got to turn it off to do final-prep due diligence.
Thanks for the demystification!

ParticipantForgive me if I’m betraying a high level of cranial density here, David, but why would _the entire page change_ if the transparency feature applies only to a frame that occupies a small portion of the overall page area, and thus should affect only the area directly beneath said frame?
June 15, 2020 at 7:39 am in reply to: Filled text frame with blend mode other than Normal affects entire page below #1255232N Carroll
ParticipantUm. Yeah, OK.
Wait, what?
I mean, seriously, that’s not particularly useful.
What’s the point of being able to make a text-frame fill partially transparent _so the background image shows through unaltered_ if the act of applying transparency to the text frame alters the appearance of the background image?
My head hurts.
June 15, 2020 at 12:27 am in reply to: Filled text frame with blend mode other than Normal affects entire page below #1255182N Carroll
ParticipantThat’s…weird. Makes it really difficult to preview a spread when effects appear to apply beyond frame bounds.
Guess I’ll have to render out a PDF to see what’s really going on.
May 30, 2020 at 9:37 am in reply to: Pasting images from frame to frame without loss of positioning data #1253003N Carroll
ParticipantI’ll have to look for those methods through AppleScript. The dictionary is huge, and it’s really easy to get lost in it.
Thanks for the suggestion, Max!
