Hi David
Thanks for getting back and offering a solution to my problem.
Michael
For anyone thinking of posting an answer – I thank you for your interest – I’ve just stumbled on the solution:
It’s the Liquid Page Rule in the Control panel – turn it to off and the pages do what they’re meant to.
Thanks
Michael
As always Anne-Marie’s InDesign video clearly explained the Page Tool and told me all I needed to know. So I set up a 1/3 A4 6pp leaflet where the 3rd page had to be 2mm narrower to allow folding inside pages 1 and 2. However, with the fold-in page selected, the two other pages move as well with gaps between the pages appearing. I’ve just use tried handle dragging which didn’t work but then did subsequently after I entered the reduction in the Control Panel field. Relaunching Id, I’ve found that sometimes handle dragging works and sometimes doesn’t. Have you ever comes across something like this before? I was wondering whether I should trash the preferences.
Kind regards
Michael

You cannot set the window size.
But you can fix your problem by docking your panels, rather than having them floating on the right side. Drag the panel tab over to the right until you see a vertical blue line, then let go, and it'll be docked. Then the windows should not open behind them.
Thank you, David.
Like 'letterwoman' this has ben a real source of irritation. I couldn't see what you meant, at first, by the verticle 'blue line' on the pallette edge on the far side of the screen. However, I persevered and have now saved it as my primary Workspace and life just got a little bit easier. Many thanks.
