    Bitmap tif's can be brought into indd and treated the same way as in Quark. Get picture, place, then deselect the image. choose the content tool select the image and you will have the option of colorizing the bitmap. Just select the fill on the color palette. White areas will be transparent. Black areas will colorize.

    Not able to use the script because I'm not using the guides. These are registration/cut/fold marks that print with the job. They get trimmed off at finishing.

    I do recall a glitch like this happening in a previous version. But I cant remember which suite it was 3 or 4? And I don't remember “fixing” it. I think it just went away with preferences from other layouts that I prepped for press.
