I find it odd that it is 12 letters to which one must set ‘Words with at least’ to allow the break when I recall hearing a story about the reason there are 11 stops on the slider between Better Spacing and Fewer Hyphens. If I remember correctly, 11 was taken from an analogue dial on a mixer. Can anyone recall the details of the story?

I can reproduce this. Both Proximity and Hunspell hyphenation dictionaries produce the same result. I can’t explain the behaviour but, after a bit of fiddling, found that setting ‘Words with at least’ to 12 or greater in Hyphenation Settings allows the phrase to break after the first hyphen. Might be a bug but I have the feeling that there is logic at play here based on how ID identifies, or fails to identify, a number as a ‘word’. ID does not, as far as I can tell, hyphenate long numbers.

    Chris, David,

Thank you. That helps, esp. as DLBs are stripped out upon export to epub.
I’m going to report it as a bug though.

    Emma,

Not possible automatically in InDesign. Another feature that has been on the list of requests for a long time.

    Folks,

Thanks for your help but I know all the work-arounds. But, we should have had the ability to switch between footnotes and endnotes in ID with one click many versions ago and I am hoping that Quark’s adding this feature might spur the ID engineers to move it up the list of requested features.

Try Kindle Previewer available from Amazon’s webpage, Kindle Publishing Programs.

Or, is there any reason you can’t put it on the master pages on a layer above the other content?

in reply to: Automate Image box Creation #65731

You might try copying a box you have made and then Edit > Paste in Place (Com-Opt-Shft-V) on subsequent pages. If you have rectos and versos without identical inside and outside margins, you will have to go through the document twice. And, I suggest you search the web for a script; it sounds like the sort of thing for which someone would have written a script.

OK, thanks. I’ll keep an eye on the issue and report here if I read aught about it.

OS X 10.8.4. No error alert. Script is in User Script Panel directory. When nothing is selected, open dialog appears but selected .md document (your sample) is not imported. If markdown formatted text is pasted into ID and selected, selected text disappears.

In fact, it appears that all the cursors have stopped appearing.

in reply to: InDesign links #61150

When you copy files to another computer, the paths to the linked files change because they include the computer, user, and so on. Click on a linked file in the Links panel and look at Link info > Path to see what I mean. If the file is looking for fonts in the package or in your user library, the cause may be the same.

Use cross-references. They export correctly in CS4 and CS 5.5, but not in CS 5.

    Are there cell insets (padding)?
