It WAS the fonts — phew!! One of the two fonts used in the footer was a different version (two versions were loaded, and the computer was choosing the older version). I’ve resolved the duplicate font issues and restarted InDesign — we’re back in business. Thank you so much!!
No computer upgrades. The current templates are based on templates developed in house probably 15 years ago (many years before I started here) and updated along the way; these footer boxes have been in use since our most recent redesign, which was more than 4 years ago, without issue — and we’ve always been able to open/work on/save each other’s files without font issues. (We do hope to start from scratch later this year to build more robust templates, but we’ve never had a breakdown like this before.) It’s as if my text is suddenly too tall for the box (even if I cut the current text and place it in the same place). The only thing that has changed is upgrading to CC2019 yesterday.
I’m sure three of us are on the same version (the 4th is remote — I’ve asked her to let me know); the three of us in the office are running High Sierra, whereas the remote person is running Mojave.
The text does become overset (with option-command-/). I checked my Type and Advanced Type preferences against those of one of my coworkers; she didn’t have drag-and-drop in layout enabled, but otherwise everything is identical.
No. :-( In fact, in the IDML file, most of the text boxes now have overset text (without me typing anything in them).
I did not have Overprint Preview turned on (I do now — thanks!). I was still running into problems with PDF/X4. Our technical rep at the printer had me export the logo file as a PDF/x1a (SWOP 2 destination); when I place that PDF on the cover file and export with the printer’s job options, the separations are correct. I can’t explain why it works, but it does. (Phew!) Thanks so much for your help!
