Oh, I see. (I just switched to InDesign from old software that didn’t have a paragraph spacing option.) Yes, if I space paragraphs in style options as you say, the weird “jump” doesn’t happen between first & second lines.
I suppose I’ll have to live with the bug I’ve created by mixing leadings, and then set my styles up more intelligently for the next project.

I’m managing the space between paragraphs with leading because I need only a few points of separation. The space between paragraphs is way too big if I use returns.
