MemberMaybe create a character style that only uses ‘No Break’, and use a GREP style to apply it to the text?

MemberAgreed on editing variable text. However, there may be a sneaky way to style with GREP or nested styles using the location of the variable text.
For example, if the file name variable is the first character of the paragraph, a nested style could be applied to the first word, which would be the file name variable.
Let us know how the variable will be used and we may be able to help :)

MemberYou could also use Word Boundary in Locations, which will only find instances where implant(s) is the whole word. Then it wouldn’t matter what precedes or follows:
(?=implant(s*))i
Hope this helps!!

MemberIn order to get the paragraph rule to stop where we want at the beginning of the paragraph, we were using the right indent option in paragraph rules. Whenever the box was resized, it changed this space and changed the size of the grey bar.

MemberOK, Forum newbie here… didn’t realize the edit button disappears after a certain amount of time and anything you post is in here seems to be for good (can’t find a way to delete my goofy posts).
So here’s me, asking for help again, only this time on getting screen shots in here. I’ve tried a number of things and don’t want to have a bunch of weird posts in here, so can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance :)

MemberArgh… I guess I’ve run out of edits. I’ll be back when I figure this out :(

MemberI agree with Dwayne. Instead of using returns to build space above or below, build it into your styles. You could use the find change to style the paragraphs, then run it again to replace or delete them.
Personally I prefer to delete them so you’re not fighting with them at the top or bottom of the next column :)

MemberThat’s weird. Are there any other things going on besides the 3 paragraph returns and then the paragraph?
Also, I hate to ask the “is the computer plugged in” question, but did you check to be sure you were in the GREP tab on the Find/Change dialog box?
It’s gotten me before…
… also that the Search is set to Document or Story and not Selection

MemberHi Rivkah,
See if this GREP will work using Find and Replace, while applying the paragraph style in the Change Format section at the same time.
(?<=\r{3}).*
Good Luck!

MemberDoh! You’re right! (I feel silly!!)
I checked back with the designer to see what exactly she’s trying to do and in CS6 she was using control+cmd+shift+drag (which in CC was acting as a right click and opening a menu on her). So I showed her the cmd+shift+drag and told her it’ll work in both versions. She’s a happy girl :)
Thank you!!!

MemberTry this: \<[\u](?!(f|he|nd?|o|y|rom|or|s|t|r|hat)?)
I replaced the GREP at the beginning looking for a space followed by a character with the GREP location “Beginning of Word”
Let me know how it goes!
