MemberThanks for that Alan. I have always worked closely with printers and always ask for .joboptions and set the colour space to match theirs.
It worked out that the printer was printing 10-15% over saturated in the midtones. The colours are very nice and vibrant, just dark. I only see electronic proofs, so it is important to me to get a decent visual. The Spyder didn't make a huge difference, I had manually calibrated my screen fairly well. This is only version 2 so we'll see what goes with version 3.

MemberThanks for answering David.
One printer saves as Acrobat 4 (1.3) which flattens all transparency, the other one as Acrobat 7. I use different colour settings in Bridge for each printer settings. It is the one that uses Acrobat 4 that prints dark, the other one is perfect, as my screen. Both are on same paper stock.
Have you got any sites that you can start me on please. Is it worth getting a Spyder – can I adjust it to different monitor settings and just flip between the two.
I have just called the printer and they will get back to me with some soft proofing settings. Hopefully that will fix my problem. It is just that I will be setting the two magazines in tandem shortly – I will separate the jobs as to the Photoshop stuff, so I don't go balmy.

MemberJust off the subject a bit. But has anyone noticed when using the Book function and creating Bookmarks using the Interactive PDF maker, that the Bookmarks look for the individual document PDF as a reference. Does anyone know a work around for this please. Works fine with the print PDF, but then the other interactivity doesn't work.

MemberHi David – I did read the post on Planet Quark and that is what led me to believe there was a memory issue with CS5. I quit CS5 last night and restarted it. Started off about 200meg memory – it has now gone to 680 meg. I am just working on a magazine, but wanted to know if this was actually strange or not. I will do a complete new install I think as it has been a bit gooby ever since I started using IND 5. I just get confused at this stage what is a bug and what is my machine. Thanks again.

MemberWorked it out. I think it was Sandy Cohen who mentioned something in a post that I can't find now. Thanks anyway to whoever it was that mentioned “a link in Illustrator with transparency that would be causing an issue”. Of course it would raster it. That was the only one that I had scaled. Will keep an eye out for that one with other files that I have seen this message with. It was good to do it myself (by accident) I now know the issue instead of freaking when I see the low res image warning and making the client double check and recheck the raster images in the document. I had this message previously when placing an ad from a client and it printed OK. I just love the Preflight panel and use it as much as possible. Thanks for joining in docbud.

MemberHi docbud
The images in the InDesign files are at 300ppi and the pdf was exported as press quality. I did this one myself so I know that I am getting an incorrect reading. The question is why? Other pdfs created in InDesign and exported in the same manner are OK.
I am an advanced user, so I am hoping it is nothing silly. But double checked images in InDesign. The high res pdf was then placed at 100% in InDesign, and the Effective Resolution in preflight shows as 164dpi.
