MemberClaudio, if you control your styles with a script, you can exclude those tables. Of course your script must maybe built slightly different, e.g. with ‘alert(app.selection[0].parent.parent.parent);’ you get different results, if your cursor is placed in the outside (result is a textframe) or inner table (result is a cell).
So you could loop through every paragraph and check the parent elements.

MemberHi Sabrina,
some kind of yes and no: You cannot do this by default with InDesign. But this can be done via scripting. A script could read all file names in a folder and place the right image in your placeholder. This placeholder must be a named frame or can be e.g. text with a specific para style.
Since there is a bit of testing needed, we call this here a “paid script”. If you interested, you can mail me directly at forum@ruebiarts.de.

MemberGilly, I tried Davids tip with Peters script and this is great. Also I wasn’t aware of the StorySplitter-Script (note: NOT SplitStory.jsx). Of course what is missing in this script: Split before a special paraStyle or Split before a special GREP.
However: I made those %%% green and 50 points and insert a break character to odd pages. This way it is easily to identify the breaks. So this way is surely much faster than place everything by hand.

MemberMary, maybe it is a bit clearer, if someone show you the strokes in different colors. I don’t like this kind of work, if you will go with it, you will surely know after same time, what I mean.
However: The not magic trick is, to give everything outside stroke too.

Memberhm, to late for an edit: If this isn’t much more complicated, I would use maybe one textframe with spanning columns instead of a table.

MemberMary, table strokes are always created from the middle. So you cannot do that easily with strokes. But if you work with a never version of InDesign, you can fake this with paragraph shading and the inset controlls the thickness of the “pseudo” strokes.

MemberHi Willy,
it is not a problem, to import a .csv in your document. But the goal is to spread the data in the correct places. So a script solution cannot be a free generic one. EasyCatalog can be a solution, but involves also training on the job. Whatever you choose, it depends on your project. If you interested, you can sent me a example of your .csv and a testdocument to forum@ruebiarts.de

MemberHi Aaron,
this can be done with one line. But realize that you maybe get overset text!
app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().notes.everyItem().convertToText();

MemberWhat is your meaning for “edit”? The big benefit with InCopy is the same Textengine as in InDesign. You can write and edit in both programs, but you can only change geometry (move and create frames) in InDesign.
If you watch the first 4 videos in the mentioned InCopy-Training, there is everything explained.

MemberGraham, I’m pretty sure, he needs some more tabs :)
@Alex: Please provide a example where we can see, where your tabs must be inserted. It isn’t clear to me, if you need a tab at the start and before the open parentheses.Kai Rübsamen
MemberGhaleb, the short answer is “geometry”.
A bit longer: Break up the process:
1. Create a new document > InDesign
2. Create and arrange textframes and images > InDesign
3. Do all your typo stuff > InDesign AND InCopy
4. Export a final highres PDF for printer > InDesignOf course, this isn’t so easy, that you have only 4 steps. E.g. a layouter can create para styles and the editor can use them. But the InCopy editor can also create styles …
A good starting point for a better understanding is the site, that Davis has mentioned. Here I can recommend the InCopy-Training at lynda.com (linkedIn)

MemberWhat is the “scriptbox”? You should save this line as plain text with suffix “.jsx”. Then you can call this script from Peters script. Before you could do a little test and run the line from your scripting-folder on a single document.

MemberTaylor, I’m pretty sure, that no one crack up your files and want to annoy someone ;-) Maybe it’s a k4 problem or whatever, BUT: Davids way shows how to solve your problem.

MemberIt seems, that someone plays with the font in No para Style and read Davids article weeks ago: https://creativepro.com/changing-default-font-indesign-document-advanced.php
When I read Davids article, I thought that I never want to use this method, till today. So thanks David.
However: I cannot say, if this can happen in the UI or someone plays with the idml, but while one doc is set to Times, the other is set to Galliard (and not Minion Pro!). If you set both to the same font (probably Times) and apply the correct settings in the style, your copy/paste thing will work right.

MemberI’m pretty sure, it’s a problem with the styles, cause it is always ever the same problem since years ;-) Another thing that ‘can’ cause problems: They changed the font in No Paragraph style and Basic Paragraph style from Times / Times New Roman to Minion Pro.
You could provide 2 testfiles where there problems happen during copy/paste, but I have only time for a short investigation later in the evening or tomorrow.
