MemberThis page hasn’t had much activity. Does anyone know how to generate a pageful of thumbnails (like a page plan) of a publication in ID CC 2014? Have they fixed this? Distiller is apparently no longer supported, I can’t find a Postscript PPD or app or whatever now gets installed in Username > Library > Printers >. Any news on this topic?

MemberOn my system, “Smart Guides” only shows when two objects are aligned. It doesn't indicate when your cursor is hovering over an anchor point or tell you when it's selected. The person who asked me about this is working on a small, high-resolution screen and that seems to make the anchor points very small as well.

MemberSo I found and read a little more about this. The ideal technique seems to be to place your cursor in the text where you want the pic, then use Place for one pic at a time. In a perfect world, this comes in styled with the anchor in the right place, pushes the rest of the text out of the way, and floats right where it's supposed to.
Not so far, but I'm working on it.

MemberSounds like that might be the trick I was thinking of. I'm definitely interested if anyone has another suggestion, but I'll give that a try. Thanks!

MemberWow. Thanks so much, Anne-Marie! I figured it had to be there someplace, but nothing showed up when I searched Adobe help or these forums for “export embedded images”. What a great resource this site is….thank you guys for all the work you do on it.
(BTW, I found out what happened — they had imported a Word file that had the images already inserted in it, and they just left them in place.)

MemberThanks, everyone. The IDML export/import worked perfectly. Didn't even ask me to try to re-link the text files, and linked the image files automatically.

MemberThank you, David. I'll give it a shot. Great interview with Russell Viers, by the way!

MemberNope. Didn't work. But it doesn't do it when I make an Interactive PDF. Only the Print kind.

MemberThanks, Anne-Marie. I'll try rebuilding prefs again. The PDF comes out perfectly and it's already open in Acrobat (v.9) when I switch to it. Everything about it seems pretty normal, other than the fact that my computer instantly (and I do mean instantly) switches me back to InDesign once the file's created.
BTW, if I manually have Acrobat in the foreground, waiting for an in-progress PDF to appear, it also switches me back to ID once the new PDF completes itself and loads in Acrobat.
As for re-associating the extension, all my PDFs already open in Acrobat just fine.

MemberThanks, all of you. I didn't realize that guide to invisible characters was available. That did it. Now I can see what's going on…though I don't know if your guess about copying and pasting from web pages is the cause. Might well be.
A quick search and replace, and all is well!

MemberI had managed to get most of the way myself, if turns out. But it wasn't working right. I thought it was the GREP I was creating, but it seems there must have been some other weird characters in there. I ended up replacing their mess by hand. it's fine. And (as usual) I learned a lot in the process. Always a good thing.
Thanks!

MemberYep. That's as far as I got — same page. I thought I'd found the secret, but the lack of dots killed it. Oh, well. I knew if it were possible, this would be the place where somebody would know how to pull it off.
Thanks!
