February 14, 2013 at 12:57 am in reply to: Best way to get "Article X.X on next page" on the bottom of each page? #64153

MemberMissy,
Try using the varible text (running header) in the type menu. You'll need a char based or para based style for the text. On the “normal” pages use the style for each new article, and you'll see that the text for the running header changes each time a new art is made. If the text you want in the header is slightly different from the text itself, just create a anchored objet with the right text, and give it a point size of .1, or put the text in white.

MemberIndeed, I think it's the only way to keep the formatting as it should be.

MemberIf I get it right, you're applying a char style which gives a colour to a complete sentence, but there's already another char style (Super) from the preptext script applied. I tried it, and, as I expected, the colour style overrides the other one from the preptext, but it doesn't knock off the superscript, it just set's it the plain text. In the char style I only filled in the colour, nothing else (see the char style from preptext it only has “superscript” in it. I don't think you can apply two different char styles on the same letter at the same time. If it are footnote references, you can have a work around by first applying the colour char style then searching for all the footnote references and applying the “super” char style made by preptext.

MemberAttila,
Checked some things and sorry but indeed you'll have to provide a extra layer with your spot color on it.
Did you consider using gold or any other metallic colour on the paper? Maybe running it two times through can give the effect you want. Some of those inkts give fantastic effects on some dark paper.
Make it easy for the printer and give him 2 pdf files, one with the spot colour on it, as you said, to be printed first, and a second pdf with all the rest.

MemberThis is a complicated solution. It begins with the paper itself. Which type of paper is it? Glossy or not.
I don't think it will work, you'll have to see it with your printer.
Layerring colours is not needed, just tell the printer what to do. Take care with overprint and knock-out for the spot colour.
I would suggest taking a bright white glossy paper and print the dark colour on that. Your bright colour will be perfect that way.

MemberFurry,
The structure column comes from an xml file. When you import an xml file, the structure panel opens and shows you the elements of that xml file. Why it stays on when creating new docs I cannot say since I don't have the problem and I cannot create it (woriking on win 7pc). Just found it:
Use the Structure pane
- To open the Structure pane, choose View > Structure > Show Structure.
- To close the Structure pane, choose View > Structure > Hide Structure, or click the splitter button.

MemberWhy not using the keyboard for typing these letters? é;è, …
You could use the combination of “AltGr”+” ' ” (on an azerty keyb it's next to the letter” m”).
For é it bcomes “AltGr”+” ' ” and then the letter e giving é. With shift it becomes É.

MemberHave you tried the “achored object” method? You can create a text frame, make it an “achored object”, link it to the main text (rectacle on top of the text frame). It will follow the text, and you can put it anywhere you want on the page.
January 3, 2013 at 8:55 am in reply to: How do I delete a page without ID reapplying master pages to moved pages? #63842Gert Verrept
MemberIsn't this logical? When you delete page 9, page 10 becomes page 9, with the master page items from the old page 10.
If you delete a page, you're not left with a gap, all the pages just move up, but they keep their Master Page item.

MemberJohn87, make sure that the textframes are linked, the footnote numbers will be updated and continued automatically.

MemberAs I thought, Indesign and TOC, not a happy marriage.
I think I'm going to try the Cross reference option. Wait and see.
Thnkx for the replies.
November 23, 2012 at 11:12 pm in reply to: InDesign CS5: italics missing from imported Word document #63612Gert Verrept
MemberI have to import Word docs all day long, and for me the easiest way to keep everything “as is” in Word, is a macro I have in Word which creates char styles for italic, bold, superscript, etc. In Indesign I have the corrsponding char styles made (same name). When importing (place) or “copy-pasting” the Word file, all goes fine. All the char styles are transformed in real char styles and the rest of the text is ok too.
I then start applying the Indesign styles needed in the doc and I get rid of the “normal” style imported from Word.
A little script which helps a lot when the macro fails (often when footnotes are in tables in word) is the famous preptext script.

MemberIf you”re working in a “book” you can make a TOC for every separate file in the book, add it infront of the chapter, and make a big TOC with complete book.

MemberR,
are you printing this on a little printer, or is it a print job? In the first case, can your printer do double sided printing? If yes, just set it to double sided printing.
Multiple on A3. Make a dummy first so you can check if all is well imposed.
If you're sending it to a printer, jut give him to final format and the quantity. He will do the rest himself.
