David, thank you so much, this is the best solution I have found yet! Now I can highlight all the words easily and change their style as desired.

Nope, it just highlights all the text.

What I mean is that the there are words like these (square highlight is done by me):

And I want to find a way that Indesign/TextWrangler can help me find/highlight such words and then I can decide whether the word is supposed to be in italics/regular.

Yes, there are words that have multiple styles within (see link) and what I need is to be able to identify/highlight such “messed up” words within a 1000+ pages text..
