David BlatnerKeymasterYour sad puppy eyes almost won me over, but no poster gifts this time! Sorry. But we will be doing a poster giveaway very soon to some randomly drawn ID Secrets members, so perhaps you'll be lucky! I hope so!

David BlatnerKeymasterI'm not sure what black lines you're talking about. Do you mean the edge of the page? The right and bottom edges of the page have an extra line that is intended to be like a drop shadow to give a sense of the paper.
Don't forget you can go in and out of Preview mode by pressing W.
David BlatnerKeymasterThere are a bazillion plug-ins, it seems, to handle creating catalogs and directories and other sorts of “database publishing” projects, including:
- Auto Price from Meadows Software
- InData from Em Software (or the more powerful InCatalog)
- DataLinker from Teacup Software
- EasyCatalog from 65Bit
and others!
In general, using a plug-in like one of these is the way to go when trying to automate the process.

David BlatnerKeymasterYou can learn more about why images open in the “wrong” program here:

As for the math captcha… sorry 'bout that. I hope we can find a way to fix in in the next couple of weeks.
David BlatnerKeymasterYes, it was the driver! Very embarrassing. You know, Mac folks don't usually think about updating printer drivers, as it's so rare to have a problem with one. Ah, live and learn. Thanks for responding, though.
David BlatnerKeymasterAnne-Marie just told me about a great method for doing this… but I've already forgotten it! With luck she'll chime in here later tonight or tomorrow.

David BlatnerKeymasterI get that error when: I use Edit Original in InDesign, but it opens in the wrong program (such as Preview on the Mac), so I go and open it in Photoshop manually (or use Edit With in InDesign). Now, when I go to save, it says it's already open. Why? Because 65% of the time I forget to close the image in Preview (or whatever app it first opened in).
Doesn't sound like that's your issue, but it's the most common similar issue for me.
David BlatnerKeymasterAlthough… with that “file opening” weirdness you describe, perhaps you should try the INX/IDML route to clear out whatever gunk is stuck in there.
David BlatnerKeymasterI honestly can't think what inside a document could cause that. Sounds very odd.
But a bigger question is: Why are you trying to copy and paste from the original document? What is wrong with the old, tried-and-true: Save-as-then-work-on-the-duplicate? Save As removes file bloating. I would probably do a save as, then strip out what I don't need anymore, then do another save as and be on my way. You could throw in an export-to-INX/IDML-and-open-that-file in there, but it's rarely necessary.
