David BlatnerKeymasterPDF file size depends entirely on the export settings, such as: image encoding (zip vs. jpg), image resolution, transparency flattening, color conversion (rgb s. cmyk), and (one that people don't usually look at, but should) whether color profiles are included. CMYK color profiles, especially, can add a lot to file size.
David BlatnerKeymasterI'd be curious to hear what you think of this very clever solution:

I believe it was originally created for your exact need in mind.

David BlatnerKeymasterMany people have asked for “symbols” or something like that to accomplish what you want. However, the only good solution at this time is to place that artwork in an InDesign file, then place that InDesign file with the artwork into the InDesign file you're working on. (Yes, you can place one INDD file into another; it acts like a graphic.) You can place the same artwork multiple times.
Even better, you could just use the LayoutZone script from automatication.com to automate the conversion of your artwork into a layout zone and then duplicate that.

David BlatnerKeymasterWhat's wrong with paying for a plug-in if it saves you enough time!
I know of a plug-in that might help… it's called PowerHeaders from in-tools.com. Check out, Harbs! ;)

David BlatnerKeymasterI love it when the answers are simple! :)
Check out the Units & Increments pane inside the Preferences dialog box. (Change the value when no docs are open to change all future docs.)
David BlatnerKeymasterI have seen some weirdness around panels being open, and yes I think that's a bug. But I haven't figured out exactly when it happens and when it doesn't.
I don't know where your neck of the woods are, but I hope we'll get there if we wander around long enough! :)
