David BlatnerKeymasterAlways rebuilding preferences after upgrading from CS4 to CS5. I don't know why. Shouldn't make any difference (as it's a “new install”) but it does.
David BlatnerKeymasterAre you working on documents off the server? I know many people will say that's no problem, but I never like it. I always prefer copying files to a local drive, working on them, saving them, and then putting them back on the server. The more you avoid working across networks, the happier you will be.
I don't see why changing the IP mapping would affect this, but if ther server was upgraded, it could easily be many other server-related issues. Sounds like it's the server/network, not InDesign, though.
David BlatnerKeymasterThe hardest part is getting the styles set up properly. Make sure everything has styles applied to it. The easiest/fastest way to do this, in my experience, is by using the Create Character Styles and Create Paragraph Styles feature in the Blatner Tools plug-ins. I made a movie about how it works:
Go here and click on “Create Paragraph and Character Styles Automatically”
https://www.dtptools.com/produc…..teractives
After you style everything, and make a table of contents, the export goes very fast.

David BlatnerKeymasterIt is generally a best practice to assign a character style to locally formatted text like superscript. You can use find/change to find the superscripts and apply a character style to them all quickly. Then when you change the paragraph style, the text formatted with character styles should not change. Yes?

David BlatnerKeymasterIDcs5 DOES allow you to find text in a locked object (click the first button in the find/change dialog box). But it does not allow you to change text in locked objects.
I can see your point about locking position vs. position AND content. However, most people want both locked.
The best solution is to place your kind of locked objects on a layer and then lock the layer (in Layer Options). Then you can quickly unlock it when you want to find/change. Then lock it again.

David BlatnerKeymasterI don't know why they removed it. What were you using it for? Why was it so useful for you? It just closed the PDF. I never found a good use for that.

David BlatnerKeymasterThis has long been a big problem in InDesign. I strongly suggest that you export the book to PDF and then use an Acrobat plug-in to do it.
David BlatnerKeymasterDo you have the graphic selected with the Direct Selection tool instead of the Selection tool? Are you in Preview display mode? Perhaps use Window > Arrange > New Window to view two views of the same page, so that one is selected and one is just for previewing?
David BlatnerKeymasterNope, never seen that! Weird.
David BlatnerKeymasterHowever, you can turn off Automatic Pagination in the Book panel flyout menu (in book numbering options, if I recall). Work with it turned off, and just renumber before you export or print. At that point, all your modification dates will get updated, but while you're working (before updating the numbers), ID will leave them alone.
David BlatnerKeymasterCool idea, but no, I don't think InDesign is the tool of choice. Check out Acrobat Pro's portfolio option.
David BlatnerKeymasterWow! I think Adobe removed that button action. I do not know why. I remember it in earlier versions, but I do not see it now.
I think the only way to do that now would be to add the button in Acrobat Pro.
