David BlatnerKeymasterThere are a number of options, including:

Also, there are more powerful third-party utilities, such as
https://exportools.badiasoftware.com/
and
David BlatnerKeymasterLOL! Oh there are dozens… hundreds more! There's always more to learn about this awesome program.
We talked about the option/alt-drag trick in the podcast a while back: https://creativepro.com/pod…..script.php
Probably worth a blog post!
David BlatnerKeymasterThat's a fun tip. Yes, it's a known trick: Option/Alt drag on the right or bottom edge of a table and then drag to add rows or columns.
David BlatnerKeymasterYou got it right: A stroke and fill. You can apply stroke and fill in the edit character style dialog box.
David BlatnerKeymasterPerhaps the document was added to a book panel with auto pagination turned on by accident… even if it's removed from the book panel later, it still remembers its page numbering. Oops!

David BlatnerKeymasterThis is great information, but it would be terrific if you continued it in the Scripting section of the forums. (I think most users don't really want to look at all that code!) :)

David BlatnerKeymasterVery mysterious. I would try:
* Opening the files on a different machine, if possible
* Or, try logging into a different account (like a guest account) on your computer and trying
* Make sure you're not opening them off a server
David BlatnerKeymasterThat has happened to me, but I have no idea. It's intermittent, usually once a month or so. The only way around it seems to be to quit and relaunch InDesign. I believe it happens in order to build patience in users and cause them to reflect upon their bellybutton for a while.
August 27, 2010 at 9:43 am in reply to: HELP! how do you place a pic with a transparent background? #56844
David BlatnerKeymastersugagirl: There are some great answers from others above, but I'm trying to figure out how you were making the background transparent in QuarkXPress! What feature were you using there? I don't think QX has a way to do this that ID doesn't.
Another option for “blending in” a black and white jpeg logo: Select the graphic frame and set the blending mode to Multiply in the Effects panel.
David BlatnerKeymasterThere are no “right” ways, but RGB workflows are very often far more efficient than converting to CMYK all the time.
I handle rich black by creating cmyk rich black areas in InDesign, not Photoshop. Tyipcally, rich black areas are areas like solid black rectangles with type over them. That's all better done in InDesign. There isn't really a need for speccing rich black areas in photographic images, is there?
David BlatnerKeymasterYou are, since you mentioned it, “old school.”
You can view CMYK in InDesign using View > Proof Colors, if you want.
RGB does shift to CMYK in conversion, but the conversion that ID uses is exactly the same as the conversion in Photoshop.
However, there is nothing wrong with TIFF. That works fine. PSD is sometimes more convenient. JPEG is lossy (degrades images to get much smaller file sizes, but at maximum quality you almost certainly cannot see the difference).
There are some cases when you want to convert to CMYK first (such as perhaps screen shots), but for most photo images, it's not worth it. I discuss some of the pros and cons in my article in the current issue of InDesignMag.com.

David BlatnerKeymasterCool! Thanks for sharing. Very interesting idea.
August 24, 2010 at 4:58 pm in reply to: Two views of the same doc open at the same time? [cs4] #56814
David BlatnerKeymasterWindow > Arrange > New Window
then choose the side-by-side option in the doc window arranger menu in the Application Bar.
Have fun!
David BlatnerKeymasterA search of the site for “excel” quickly found this:
https://creativepro.com/eas…..sheets.php
I don't know what's wrong with the calculations. That should work fine. You may need to save your file as a different file format, such as xlsx?
Note that dtptools.com also has a new plug-in called Active Tables that lets you do spreadsheet functions inside indesign! Wow!
