David BlatnerKeymasterCrazy! You might try cutting and pasting the entire story. See if that puts things right.
I have seen odd jumping before, but it's usually with multiple non-threaded frames, and usually because some paragraph has been giving a numbered paragraph style but which doesn't actually appear to be numbered on the page. So InDesign counts it, but it's hard to find.
David BlatnerKeymasterKirk, the only answer to that is to change your PDF output (or optimization) settings. If your file was that large, your file must be too high-resolution, or you're using too high a jpeg quality or something. That's the tradeoff… but you're right, an 18-page pdf shouldn't be that large.
I don't see why you think InDesign would be able to do this differently.
David BlatnerKeymasterInteresting! Are there particular areas of eDocker that you found difficult?
You export one or more SWFs, you launch eDocker, you add the SWFs, you export the final result. That's the basics. Then there are a bunch of other little details, depending on what you want to add to the package.
From what I recall, I think the least-understood parts are the script to export searchable text. But you don't have to use those.
Let's brainstorm where the problem parts are, and perhaps that will help the folks in Finland fine-tune their Help.
David BlatnerKeymasterHey, that is a really good tip! Adjusting the leading of the first line pushes the footnote line up/down… cool. Thanks.
David BlatnerKeymasterWell, you have to have an “end” character or some pattern to define a nested style. Otherwise, how would InDesign know where to stop? If you want the whole first line to be a head and the next line of the paragraph to be something different, use a Line Style (in cs4 and later) instead.
David BlatnerKeymasterI don't recall an “export comps to pdf,” but perhaps it was there. However, you can pretty easily do the same thing in Photoshop CS5 by choosing File > Scripts > Layer Comps to Files. If you get multiple pdf files, you can easily merge them in Acrobat.
David BlatnerKeymasterHere's one answer:
David BlatnerKeymasterYou can cmd-shift or ctrl-shift click on it, or just use the Place cursor (if you're using file > place) to click on it.
I strongly suggest checking out one of the books or video training on InDesign to get up to speed with it quickly. For example, you can get a free 24-hour pass to lynda.com by going to
https://www.lynda.com/trial/ind…..ignsecrets
Or pick up a copy of Real World InDesign from a bookstore or library!

David BlatnerKeymasterWow, that is interesting!
No, I think you're out of luck.
You can only tag a single frame; you can't tag a group of any kind, even if it's an anchored object. I think the Add Untagged Items feature looks at that anchored object and freaks out, not knowing what to do.
Only idea I can think of is to turn that group of objects into a single “image” with a tool like layoutzone from automatication.
David BlatnerKeymasterThis is a great help! Thank you, Mikizil!
David BlatnerKeymasterAre you talking about export layer comps in Photoshop? I believe that functionality is still there.
Or are you talking about a layer comps feature in InDesign? There is a layer comps plug-in from dtptools.com, but not directly in InDesign.
David BlatnerKeymasterThis is a great help! Thank you, Mikizil!
David BlatnerKeymasterHow would you do this in QX?
You could force a column break, I supposed, with type > insert break character. You might also try turning off Adobe Paragraph Composer in the justification dialog box for that paragraph. Hm..
David BlatnerKeymasterYou can use the PDF2ID tool to convert PDF files into InDesign files.
David BlatnerKeymasterIs the Window > Application Frame turned on? Perhaps that's the gray background you're seeing?
