David BlatnerKeymasterHi Masoud, I am not sure what you mean about a glossary. Can you give me an example? Does this link help?
David BlatnerKeymasterI'm confused by what you're writing. The book panel doesn't have a slider or other things you're talking about:

Maybe you're talking about a different feature?
(Unfortunately, due to security issues, I don't think you can upload images here, but you can upload one somewhere else and link to it here.)
David BlatnerKeymasterOne idea is to use the Frame Reporter plug-in from rorohiko:

David BlatnerKeymasterHaven't seen that before. You are double-clicking on the docs in the book panel?
Perhaps try rebuilding your preferences:

David BlatnerKeymasterAre you copying objects from CS3 and pasting into CS5? Or something like that? I do NOT recommend copying and pasting objects from one version to another. Scary. Have you tried exporting as a snippet (file > export, or drag and drop the objects to the desktop or a folder), and then placing the snippet into the other program?
David BlatnerKeymasterHaven't seen a script to do this. Not sure if this will work, but there's an old post here:
David BlatnerKeymasterWhile I generally agree with the “ask the printer” adage, I think that this is a case in which duplicating the image (having one image on each page; each image not actually crossing the spine), and moving the image out a little bit, so there is some part of the image shown twice. If it were a magazine, I wouldn't worry so much, but for a book, there will almost certainly be a little bit lost in the spine.
David BlatnerKeymasterNo script necessary, and you really do NOT want to convert the text to actual outlines. Stuff gets lost.

However, the phrase “they cannot rip from a PDF” raises huge red flags for me. I would strongly suggest that either they do not know what they're doing or they have such outdated software that it may be cause for alarm.
David BlatnerKeymasterNo, there is no such thing as a typical magazine size or layout, though there are common sizes. Best thing to do is to talk with the printer you're going to be using to print this thing and ask them. Also, go to a magazine/newspaper shop with a ruler and take measurements of the ones you like.
David BlatnerKeymasterSounds like you want to use apply style “then next style”. I think Michael talked about that in this video:

I've done a video for that, too, but now I can't find where it is! :)

David BlatnerKeymasterI find these very difficult to read, honestly, and rarely helpful. However, there is a guide here:
https://creativepro.com/gui…..eports.php
That said, I would normally try these things:
- Rebuild preferences (see https://creativepro.com/popular-posts )
- Make sure font manager plug-ins (such as ones from Linotype, Extensis, or Insider Software) are uninstalled (see https://creativepro.com/popular-posts )
- See if these files work on another copy of InDesign somewhere (to see if it's your app or the files)
- Try logging in on your computer as a guest or as another user and launching InDesign from there.
Try… well, just keep trying!
David BlatnerKeymasterHappy 2012, Furry! I don't know the answer to the PageMaker layers question; that's odd. The file size issue is a long-standing one; check out this post:
https://creativepro.com/why-is-my-file-size-so-huge.php
and the InDesign Magazine article I wrote with Mike Rankin regarding this issue. I bet much of the additional file size between PM and INDD was from embedded color profiles.
David BlatnerKeymasterNope. Printer Styles can't remember printers… sigh.
David BlatnerKeymasterTo apply a character style to a whole line, use a Line Style (it's underneath Nested Styles in the dialog box). See:
David BlatnerKeymasterI don't think it's InDesign that is remembering; I think it is the printer driver itself. For example, on the Mac, you can open system preferences, choose Print & Fax, then set the Default Printer popup menu to either a particular printer or “Last Printer Used.”
