David BlatnerKeymasterIt's definitely not a preference or setting. I think it was likely an accidental change. I hope it comes back!
David BlatnerKeymasterThis is an age-old problem. In CS6, you can actually export a true grayscale PDF. (I don't know how you did it in CS4, but it shouldn't have been possible.) But if you can't upgrade to CS4, then use Acrobat's convert colors feature:

David BlatnerKeymasterI'm quite sure Power Headers can do two-line headings. I've seen it. (It was used for the Harry Potter books, which often needed that for long chapter heads.) If the manual doesn't help, contact the developer and he'll be able to help you.
(In fact, the developer, Harbs, once told me that he'd give free software to anyone who came up with a real-world header need that Power Headers could not help with.) :)
David BlatnerKeymasterRight, InDesign's headers/variables can't do that. You'd need to use something like Power Headers from In-Tools.com.
David BlatnerKeymasterInteresting problem. I don't know of any script like that. But perhaps these scripts or tips will help?
David BlatnerKeymasterHere's more: https://epubsecrets.com/jan-wri…..design.php
David BlatnerKeymasterThere are tools for making indexes based on character styles or a word list (such as the indexmatic script), but making a linked index in EPUB is actually far harder than you'd think. I think there are some scripts around that help with it, but I'm not sure where.
David BlatnerKeymasterYes, this is a weakness of the Acrobat imaging model, I think. Same thing happens if you put a movie over a button. It moves to the top and obscures stuff under it. Not sure if this is something that can be fixed in Acrobat.
David BlatnerKeymasterIs the SWF overlapping the button? If so, what happens if you move it out of the way, so that the button and the SWF don't overlap?

David BlatnerKeymasterI also talked about the Section Marker technique in my CS4 beyond the basics title.
But I agree that in general, making paragraph style variables is a better option. Mike Rankin talks about that in his Long Documents title at LDC.
David BlatnerKeymasterSo if you create a new 2-page document and put a button on page 1, and set that button's action to Go to Next Page, it will take you to page 2.
But then if you use File > Place to put the SWF on page 1, then the button on page 1 no longer works?

David BlatnerKeymasterDoodlebug1, the online help can only take you so far. For your long-document feature (book-making, master pages, headers, table of contents, and that kind of thing) help, take a look at Mike Rankin's video title about Long Documents at lynda.com. Or read the long documents chapter of Real World InDesign. Actually, as you're a beginner, I would strongly recommend getting a copy of Sandee Cohen's Visual Quick Start Guide for InDesign: https://creativepro.com/res…..and-videos
It's so helpful to have a printed resource like that at your desk!

David BlatnerKeymasterI talk about anchored objects here:

David BlatnerKeymasterDoodle, I'd suggest adding additional question to the same forum thread instead of opening a different forum thread for every question. Also, you really need to watch through the whole InDesign Essential Training course on lynda.com, and perhaps get a copy of “Real World InDesign” (book). I'm really pleased that you're pushing through and learning a lot about InDesign, but we can't answer every question you might have.
As for how to number pages, there's some info here:

David BlatnerKeymasterOh I see. Yes, you could probably change it to an anchored object, then set the position based on its location on the PAGE (rather than the position in the text frame). It's a tricky dialog box, but with some study you could make it do that.
