David BlatnerKeymasterAre you triple-sure that the paragraph does not have Align to Baseline Grid turned on? That sure seems like what it sounds like.

David BlatnerKeymasterIn general, it’s always best to go directly to the developer, rather than rely on support in the forums here. Of course, if you can’t get to the developer for some reason, then the forums might be a way to find others with answers.
David BlatnerKeymasterNo, I think you’ve got the best method… The next best alternative is to just leave the text alone and draw one or more white frames behind it. Then when the text changes, you’d have to adjust the length of each white or blue frame. Either way is annoying, but for a one-page ad it shouldn’t be too horrible.
David BlatnerKeymasterYou can change most defaults when all documents are closed.
I would strongly recommend checking out some resources, such as subscribing to lynda.com and watching some videos there (such as my InDesign Essential Training course). You can get 7-days free here: https://www.lynda.com/trial/indesignsecretsWe don’t cover Hebrew and multi-lingual publishing too much here, but there is a good title by Diane Burns at lynda.com, too, on multi-lingual publishing. There are some people here who speak Hebrew or use the ME version, though, and perhaps they can help.
David BlatnerKeymasterRegarding your comment in step 4: You can do this by choosing Panel Options from the Links panel menu, turning on the Creator checkbox, and clicking OK. Now you’ll see a column labeled Creator in the top section of the Links panel. Click on the column heading and it will sort your linked images by their Creator!
David BlatnerKeymasterHowever, there are ways to batch convert AI files to PDF, I believe:
https://www.planetquark.com/2012/05/24/batch-convert-illustrator-to-pdf/Or a script:
(I just did a search for batch convert in google; looks like there are likely other solutions, too.) Good luck!
David BlatnerKeymasterUnfortunately, InDesign cannot read AI files unless they have a PDF file embedded in them. That is why you have to turn on “embed pdf” when saving an AI file out of Illustrator.
David BlatnerKeymasterWhenever you change something when NO objects are selected on the page, it changes your defaults. Perhaps you can change Object > Fitting options while no objects are selected?

David BlatnerKeymasterActually, I think darpan is wanting to set the size of the font based on a “real measurement.” That turns out to be difficult because fonts are not designed to be specified like that. However, this will help:

David BlatnerKeymasterData Merge could work; it depends on how the spreadsheet or database is set up to export. There are more powerful tools that might help even more, such as InData from emsoftware.com.
David BlatnerKeymasterGood point, David.
Michael, what do you mean it won’t stay changed? Where are you changing it?
David BlatnerKeymasterOh wait… sorry, I didn’t read your original email closely enough. You’re right re: chapter numbers.
But this makes it simpler… just assign regular paragraph numbering to everything (including the section/chapter names); then when a section/chapter is deleted, all the numbering is updated. Yes?
David BlatnerKeymasterNo way to do that right in InDesign, I think.
This plug-in might help: https://www.typedna.com ? Not sure. Haven’t used it.
InDesign CC will make it a bit easier with its new font menu, but it’s still not exactly what you described:

David BlatnerKeymasterSorry for not keeping y’all informed! We have gone back and forth with our developers and they haven’t been able to get most of the old forum posts out of the old databases. It has been very frustrating. Apparently, the old system was more messed up than we thought.
However, we have tracked down some forum database experts and I am hoping that they will have more luck with it. Believe me, we are trying to salvage as much of the old forum threads as we can, while holding on to these new forum threads from the past 3 or 4 weeks. Technically, it’s just more complicated (and expensive) than any of us thought it would be.
My hope is that we’ll have some news in the next week or two.
