David BlatnerKeymasterThis has been a wish for a very long time. No, there is no way to do it. See:
https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/114445-adobe-indesign-wishlist/suggestions/1970729-preference-to-have-preview-chec-kbox-always-enab
David BlatnerKeymasterGreat video! Thanks so much for sharing that.
I do suggest putting the grid on a master page, so you don’t have several hundred objects on each page.
David BlatnerKeymasterMy understanding is that Extension Manager is broken in all kinds of ways. I suggest trying to find the files manually (for example, if it’s a plug-in, check inside Applications/InDesign/Plug-ins) and remove the files yourself. Or contact the developer to see where its files live (might be a script or something).
David BlatnerKeymasterThat’s a clever way to show an image. You can also just upload an image to imgur.com or dropbox or other sites and insert a link to it here.
That looks like a Japanese writing book. :-)
Personally, I would either make a grid of gray frames using Step and Repeat, or use that script, or just make a single gray frame and then use Step and Repeat to make a series of white lines over it.
David BlatnerKeymasterThere is a MakeGrid script: https://creativepro.com/transform-a-frame-into-a-grid-of-frames.php
Would that work?
David BlatnerKeymasterHow are you uninstalling it?
David BlatnerKeymasterAh! so the
pre tag seems to work and allows indenting with "tabs" and 'regular spaces'
(now testing for quotes).
David BlatnerKeymasterTesting another solution I just read:
What if I type this in a pre tag instead of code? This is indented with spaces. this is indented with a tab This is not indentedSeptember 24, 2015 at 9:48 am in reply to: Is it possible to automate text changes on individual page headers and footers? #78332
David BlatnerKeymasterThank you!
I think a script that simply updates the date and the revision number (and not worrying about the change bar) is probably very easy for someone to write, and we could connect you with a custom scripter to do it.
David BlatnerKeymasterThere are two features in that pages panel fly-out menu: It sounds like you want to turn off “Allow Selected Pages to Shuffle” for the spreads you want to keep together.

David BlatnerKeymasterI wonder if it might even make sense to make this two different scripts: one which would create the little bar/bullet in the margin, and one which increments the footer revision information. Yes, it would take manually running the script to increment the revision, but that could be applied to a keyboard shortcut, so it would be very easy. And another script could “zero out” the revisions later.
Note that there are “blackening” plug-ins for InDesign, which might also help, such as:
https://www.ctrlsoftware.com/en/products/plugins-extensions/ctrlchanges
orand this set:
https://www.kerntiff.co.uk/products-4-indesign/editmarks
https://www.kerntiff.co.uk/products-4-indesign/editmarks-change-side-bars
David BlatnerKeymasterSounds like maybe you have “Allow document pages to shuffle” turned OFF in the Pages panel menu. You want it on.
David BlatnerKeymasterHey! Quotes inside code tags are not converted to curly/smart/typographers quotes!
(But “this text” should be ‘converted’ because it’s not in a code tag.)
David BlatnerKeymasterAnother test:
I am typing text with "straight quotes" inside this 'code tag'
David BlatnerKeymasterHi Peter,
Thecodetag should work for you.
For example, this sentence is in inside a code tag
As is this one.
As for the smart quotes… I’m not sure we can get around that, but I will investigate.
