David BlatnerKeymasterGlad it worked! Here are a couple other ideas:

David BlatnerKeymasterRelinking? Or updating modified links? I mean, are the images actually changing at all?
That’s weird that “File handling/preserve image dimensions when re-linking” makes no difference. Hm.
David BlatnerKeymasterGreat idea to place the INDD into another InDesign file, Cindy! For a 16-page booklet, I can see how that would be a great choice.

David BlatnerKeymasterWhenever you are trying to apply a style from the beginning of a paragraph, nested styles is going to be easier. In this case you would make the nested style go to
,/(if you replace the word “Words” with your own characters, the style spans to whichever one character it finds first. This works fine for me, even if there is a line break in the paragraph. But note that a line break is a Shift-Return. If you choose Type > Show Hidden Characters, the line break should look like an “L” on its side (not the ¶ character).
David BlatnerKeymasterCindy, I think your second option is going to be the better one: making a high-quality PDF. You should not need to make printer spreads… that’s the job of the printer you’re working with! They should be able to do it better than you can, anyway. It’s generally better to make a regular PDF and then use an Acrobat tool to do the imposition.
David BlatnerKeymasterAre your printer’s job options set up for Acrobat 4 compatibility? If so, the transparency is being flattened. It might work out better as PDF/X4.
Also, it may be that it’s working (even as flattened pdf/x1-a), but is not showing up properly in Acrobat. Do you have Overprint Preview turned on in Acrobat?
David BlatnerKeymasterNo, Acrobat is a different program. It’s also called Adobe Reader. It’s what lets you view PDF files.
When you choose File > Print, there may be some settings, including “Scale” or “Fit”… You may need to adjust that to get rid of the white area. See this article:
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/scale-or-resize-printed-pages.html
David BlatnerKeymasterYes, it’s a great idea to export to PDF and then bring the PDF file to them to print. Once it is in PDF, it doesn’t matter if it came from InDesign (that is, the person who prints the PDF doesn’t need to know anything about InDesign… they just need to know about PDF and Acrobat.)
When you look at the PDF in Acrobat, does it go to the edge of the page?
I would not expect printers at officemax to be able to print to edge of a sheet of paper. They should know whether that is possible, but most printers cannot do that.
David BlatnerKeymasterMost printers cannot print all the way to the edge of the paper. Maybe that is the problem?
David BlatnerKeymasterWow… bummer! I think you probably are better off reinstalling, just to make sure all the files are back in the correct place.
David BlatnerKeymaster@Niels: An MSO is a “multi-state object” — the kind of object you get when you take two or more objects and combine them with the Object States panel.
@Sherry: No, I don’t believe there is any way to do that. MSOs are very powerful, but also really limited in so many ways.
David BlatnerKeymasterMaybe this one? https://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/dynamic_endnotes.html
Then convert the endnotes to footnotes.
David BlatnerKeymasterHi Aaron, the first place I would look is here:
https://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/footnotes.html
David BlatnerKeymasterThe images or background color must extend out past the edge of the page. (Not the calendar or important text.) See this video I did some years ago for details:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QxYe74nX60
David BlatnerKeymasterUnfortunately, form fields are PDF only… I wish we could put them in EPUB or Publish Online, but it doesn’t work.
There is a tool that lets you export HTML with form fields, though, called in5. It’s a commercial tool (costs money), but is well worth it. See this page to see the fun stuff they’re doing with forms: https://ajarproductions.com/blog/2018/10/14/more-designer-control-for-interactive-projects-from-indesign-in5-3-3-update/
