Dwayne, the use of optical kerning made quite a bit of difference. Thank you for the suggestion! We’re using Minion Pro medium as the book text font and it looks much better now.

If anyone still has any suggestions on how to accomplish this via a GREP code, I’d still be very interested to learn! I’m sure it’s going to come up again.
