Charlotte MrzygodParticipantHmm. I couldn’t get my IDML file to open either unfortunately.
IT recovered yesterday’s version so I’ll just re do my edits … Sure wish I could have recovered it somehow, though.
Charlotte MrzygodParticipantUnfortunately while I can and did rename the image, I can’t alter the folder it resides in. It is part of our engineering document management system (Solidworks PDM) and other users would lose information if I moved or renamed that folder.
Charlotte MrzygodParticipantWere you able to open your file at all? After saving the ad as a PNG, how did you fix the link if the file wouldn’t open?
I tried renaming my image that was (possibly) causing the problem, thinking that maybe if the link was missing, I’d at least be able to get the file to open, but that didn’t work.
Charlotte MrzygodParticipantWell, that’s true, but it had been a little while with no replies …
Charlotte MrzygodParticipantHi John, were you able to figure out your question? What problems are you having with the white stroke? There are a couple of ways to do it. Here are some screen shots. I hope this answers your question.
Charlotte MrzygodParticipantHi Kelly,
Thank you. I haven’t used LinkedIn in ages. My page is terribly out of date and I don’t even remember my login, but I will try to see if I can recall.
Cross references make sense. I haven’t used them much but have been looking through the options and functions. We never used them at the newspapers, and in my 3 years doing manuals, it’s been a game of keeping up with production, with updates & improvements falling by the wayside.
Charlotte MrzygodParticipantI see your point, but I was hoping to hear from others who may have similar projects. I’ve been reading a lot of the articles, but some feedback from someone who has built a document like this would be helpful too.
Currently I PDF them, and usually this is a good solution since the PDFs in our document vault management system are revision controlled so I get a notification of a modified link if an engineer updates the drawing. There are quite a few that aren’t, or that I need to redraw to get the representation I need.
Solidworks will save to an AI or PSD file but I haven’t experimented with the things you can do there, and some of our models are HUGE.
Anyway, thank you for your suggestions, and I’ll keep reading, but the best way to make the interactive components is still my main focus.
Charlotte MrzygodParticipantI just read an article here about this!
Charlotte MrzygodParticipantThis may or may not work with your particular style and layout, but I have used a combination of a contrasting stroke, outer glow, and/or drop shadow. I make user manuals for heavy equipment, and I need to make annotations on top of photos to show steps for maintenance and repair procedures. What I do most often is apply an outer glow with the settings tweaked to make it appear more like a stroke with a hard, precise outline rather than a soft fade, and then I add a drop shadow that’s pulled in fairly tight so it doesn’t get lost in the photo and gives better contrast.
Here are some articles on some of the things you can do with the outer glow effect:
