    Marion,

No known fix ever worked for me. No one at Adobe could ever provide anything that helped. The only thing that worked was skipping CS6 and going straight to CC. It’s been working fine for me ever since.

    Good luck.

    Hi guys,

I don’t know what happened to it, but I posted a followup yesterday (before Bob’s post).

Anyway, the short story is that I installed CC and everything works fine. I even opened a CS6 document from a current project, copied all content out and pasted it into a newly-created CC document and have been working on that since around midday yesterday without a single crash. For the sake of my mental health, I’m going to pretend that CS6 never existed.

(“wheel” still shows up in all my Get Info/Sharing & Permissions panels. But that may just be an entirely separate issue.)

    Thanks again,
    Chad

    David,

    CS6 is up to date.

I repaired permissions this morning. Didn’t help.

I’m able to delete “wheel” from the Get Info panel of an individual document. But the document will still crash the moment I try to “Save As.”

Wouldn’t it be odd if there was a major problem with my computer, but it only affected one program? Especially a program that is so inextricably linked to a bunch of other programs that run just fine?

I suppose my next step is to install CC. After all, it’s not like it will make my computer explode (…right?).

    Thanks,
    Chad

    David,

    Thanks for the reply.

I created a new User account. Didn’t work. Plus, there were some new problems. For instance, when I opened any existing ID document it was labeled as “Read Only” up at the top of the window, even though it’s Read & Write in the Get Info: Sharing & Permissions window. When I tried “Saving” or “Saving As” any of these documents it crashed ID every time.

The only thing that worked under the new User was that I could create a new document, BUT I could not save it. That crashed it every time.

    There are no extra plug-ins.

It can’t be the files that are causing it, since I can’t even create a new file without crashing ID 100% of the time. But as I mentioned before, that’s only a new problem that started within the last couple days (i.e. it’s actually getting progressively worse).

I’m basically dealing with what is essentially a defective product. What do you think about bypassing CS6 and trying CC? Can I install that without overwriting CS6? Will I be able to open my CS6 files with CC? I would normally assume so, but at this point the program is operating like it’s got a poltergeist in it.

How on earth can this just be happening to me? It’s not possible, is it?

    * I also noticed something I think is weird regarding the User account thing. When I do a Get Info on any .indd, .eps, .ai or .pdf document there’s a user named “wheel” in the Sharing & Permissions window. But there’s no such User on my machine. Any idea what that is?

    Thanks again,
    Chad
