    OK, David. I already did that course on Lynda.com, but I will do it again and pay more attention. And, by the way, I hope I can say this here, I did every one of your InDesign courses on the Lynda site. I never would have come this far without them. So I finally can say “thank you” to you and all the others on the Lynda site.

    I don’t know how to answer you. I have tried everything I can think of, have poked around in all the corners, and am left having trouble even trying to explain what is going on.

    My Master pages do not have LIGATURES checked. Until yesterday I did not know I could go to the Character panel and check it because I do not want them. Now I know there are two places you can check it – the Character panel and also click on the very small three horizontal lines in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Further, whether or not LIGATURES is checked depends on where you have the cursor. Never, ever, did I choose it in any of these places.

    I understand that I have to go back and correct where it already changed the text.

    My question is how did this happen and, if at all possible, how do I get rid of LIGATURES forever so this does not happen again.

    Thank you for the reply but I am at a complete loss here. For some years I have been writing a book, working my way up from CS6 to the latest version of InDesign 2020. Early on I marked my InDesign manual to never use LIGATURES, not ever.

    I have Masters pages that I have been using for years. LIGATURE is NOT checked in these Master pages.

    Since upgrading to InDesign 2020, I find LIGATURE checked in some of the files I have been working on. I don’t know how many files are involved here because I frankly am tired of dealing with problems. When I find a file with LIGATURE checked, I uncheck it and get rid of the LIGATURES in that file. The next time I open this file, there is LIGATURE checked again. What is this telling me – that I have no control, I can’t change my mind about this particular file? I really don’t like LIGATURES.

    Please! How do I get LIGATURE to behave? What do I have to do to remove it from InDesign? Or at least stayed unchecked. What am I doing wrong?
