MemberThere’s a script for that, Jimmy. It’s called InGutter.jsx. Check on the InDesignSecrets website for it.

MemberIf you set the bleed in Document Setup, you will see it in the Normal View in Screen Mode. My bleed lines show up as red.

MemberThere is no error message…it just doesn’t do anything. When I check the Character Styles panel, there’s nothing there after I run the script.
I did download and run both Preptext and PerfectPreptext. The PerfectPreptext_do.jsx gave me an error message, but Preptext did run.
And…what happened to the buttons at the bottom of the Scripts panel to run? You have to click at the top and then click on Run.

MemberI did save it as idml and succeeded in opening the file. I immediately re linked to the new graphic and voilà! I gave the graphic the very same name but with the png extension.

MemberI had a very similar problem with an 88-page conference program. I found out that the culprit was a full-page PDF ad. When I saved the ad as PNG, the whole thing worked very well, exported nicely, and printed.

MemberI agree with Dwanye, in fact. That’s just what I do and it’s terribly easy that way. I thought the layers idea would work well, but obviously not.

MemberI do this by adding the tabs to the master page. Set up the tabs in layers. Then hide all of the layers except for the one you need for a given chapter. When you go to a new chapter, reveal the next chapter tab and hide the preceding chapter. It’s not automated but it sure works for me.

MemberII think this is a super idea. The more ideas I can get from whomever to make me more efficient and effective with InDesign would be wonderful!!
Thanks.

MemberOne solution is to use ID2Office (Recosoft) which will convert an InDesign file to MS Word and that can be edited, but not very easily. Text appears in text boxes and does not flow between boxes, so serious editing (adding or deleting test isn’t easy). Another possibility which I have tried is to export the InDesign file as a PDF file and then use a PDF editor (Nuance PDF Converter, Wondershare PDF Converter Pro, Wondershare PDFElement) to edit.
