    These should wor?

    For multiple return to single return:

    Go to Find/Change and choose Grep
    Find: \r+
    Replace: \r

    for multiple spaces to single space:
    Find: +
    Replace:

    Thanks for the answers everyone!

    It’s modern Greek, but even if I switch to US English this character appears every time I hit return and “overlays” the first character only (whereas in the original text it appears in random places as well. Moreover, most of my files are in Modern Greek and this is the first time I’m seeing this character.

    The character encoding looks ok (I checked a sample of characters and all seems to be fine)

    I’ll keep investigating and let you know if I figure this out!

    – Try creating a paragraph style specifically for image e.g img-inline and apply it to each image.
    – Make sure the paragraph style has auto leading and your issue should be fixed.

    Ran into this a while ago and got the answer in this forum

    You are most likely referring to a “footnote continuation separator” which appears whenever the text of a footnote continues to the next page. To change this so the separator has the same weight go to
    (Menu) Type > Document Footnote Options > Rule Above (select “continued footnotes” from the dropdown) and enter the same values as your regular rule above
