The best way to fix your text frame issue is not actually to change the default, but to start creating character and paragraph styles. This way, whenever you have a text formatting that you like or plan to use repeatedly, you can just save that style and click one button to access it. You can find the styles panels by going to Window > Styles.
Here is a tutorial on how to create paragraph styles to get you started.

Try using the tools on the alignment panel.
Window >Object & Layout > Align
This should have an option that will solve your problem.
